Alex Puey thrills rain-soaked crowd with Akrapovic Super Test EnduroGP of Finland win

A sensational ride by WP Eric Auge’s Alex Puey resulted in the young Spaniard winning the AKRAPOVIC Super Test as the GP of Finland got underway for round three of the Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship.

After winning the two previous AKRAPOVIC Super Tests in Italy and Spain, the question entering the GP of Finland was if Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Josep Garcia could make it three victories in a row.

With the special test located in the forest adjacent to the paddock, the mixture of fast-paced sections and technical downhills put riders to the test. And as the rain clouds formed, each passing lap became even more challenging to master.

A perfect lap by WP Eric Auge’s Alex Puey saw him rise to the top of the time sheets. Quickest in the Tsubaki Junior Enduro class was an early reason to celebrate, but soon it became clear that Puey’s time might just be good enough to claim the overall win.

With the rain beginning to fall heavily in Vierumäki, Salpausselkä as the EnduroGP riders lined up to the AKRAPOVIC Super Test, one-by-one they were unable to get close to Puey’s 1:32.15 benchmark.

With just the top four remaining, TM MOTO Boano Factory Enduro Team’s Zach Pichon got super close, with a time of 1:32.90. Now, all that remained between Puey and his first AKRAPOVIC Super Test win were the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing duo of Josep Garcia and Andrea Verona.

After an agonising wait, Puey proved unbeatable, as Verona and Garcia slotted into third and fourth overall in the EnduroGP class behind Pichon and Sherco Racing Factory’s Antoine Magain.

With the outright fastest time, WP Eric Auge’s Alex Puey naturally topped the Tsubaki Junior Enduro category. France’s Clement Clauzier (Beta) was second quickest, finishing 0.76 seconds behind the Spaniard.

Championship leader, TM MOTO Boano Factory Enduro Team’s Alberto Elgari edged out Team KTM Pro Racing Sport’s Romain Dagna by 0.02 seconds to complete the top three.

The Putoline Oil Youth Enduro class saw a tight battle for the win between WP Eric Auge’s Yago Dominguez and Fantic Factory Racing’s Valentin Mersin.

In the end, it was Dominguez who took the top spot by just one tenth of a second to cap off a great AKRAPOVIC Super Test for WP Eric Auge.

Behind them, TM MOTO Costa Ligure’s Pietro Scardina ended his night in third, with Beta UK’s Fraiser Lampkin only 0.08 seconds behind him in fourth.
