Josep Garcia rules the roost at FIM Enduro GP of Wales Akrapovic Super Test

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Josep Garcia takes the AKRAPOVIC Super Test win as round four of the Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship gets underway in Wales.

  • Packed Welsh crowd come out to watch AKRAPOVIC Super Test action
  • Josep Garcia leads home Zach Pichon in titanic battle
  • Nieve Holmes ensures British win in Expotrade Women’s Enduro class

A full house on Cwmythig Hill in Rhayader, Wales, were treated to an electric night of racing as the AKRAPOVIC Super Test kicked round four of the Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship into action. Under perfect weather conditions and on a dry course, competitors got down to business for the first major test of the weekend at the Forsiteservices GP of Wales.

Returning to EnduroGP competition, Australian wildcard Angus Riordan (KTM) set a time that initially looked difficult to match. As the EnduroGP class took to the track, rider after rider failed to topple the Junior Enduro competitor, until finally, Daniel McCanney (Beta) got the better of him.

However, McCanney’s time was quickly beaten, with MGR Kawasaki’s Davide Soreca laying down a scorcher of a lap. The Italian, enjoying his best AKRAPOVIC Super Test of the season, was also enjoying his moment in the hot seat, with many trying and failing to beat the Kawasaki rider.

Finally, TM MOTO Boano Factory Enduro Team’s Zach Pichon bettered Soreca, and with just Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Josep Garcia and GASGAS Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona left to run, he was inching towards his first AKRAPOVIC Super Test victory of the season.

With Verona slotting into third behind the Frenchman, it was Garcia who eventually denied Pichon that elusive victory. An incredible ride by the EnduroGP champion saw the Spaniard make short work of the technical course to win by 1.23 seconds.

Securing sixth overall on the night, Riordan held on to top the Junior Enduro class ahead of fellow Australian Kyron Bacon (Kawasaki), with Maxime Clauzier (Beta) third quickest.

The Youth Enduro class saw Team KTM Pro Racing Sport’s Romain Dagna win by 0.29 seconds over Aleix Saumell (Sherco) and Fantic Factory Racing Enduro Team Specia’s Pietro Scardina in second and third, respectively. Dagna also ended his night in 10th overall.

In the Expotrade FIM Women’s Enduro World Championship, the fight for victory was super close. Team KBS Sherco’s Nieve Holmes edged out RIEJU Factory Team’s Rachel Gutish by just 0.10 seconds to top the time sheets. Behind them, Electraction TM MOTO’s Elizabeth Tett took third.

Josep Garcia (KTM): “It was such a nice race tonight. The track, the crowd, the atmosphere and the win, it was a great way to start the GP of Wales. I really enjoyed it out there, the spectators were cheering a lot, which I loved. Of course, the focus is on tomorrow because it’s going to be a long day, but I’ll enjoy this moment tonight!”
