Talking Points – FIM EnduroGP of Portugal and Polisport GP of Italy

September was a busy month for the Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship with rounds five and six taking place in quick succession in Portugal and Italy. With the championship battles heating up, we also saw some first-time winners emerge too…

Garcia claims first world title of 2025

The Polisport GP of Italy marked the crowning of our first FIM Enduro World Champion for 2025, with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Josep Garcia claiming the Enduro1 title. The Spaniard successfully defended his crown in the Enduro1 class to become a six-time world champion. While winning 11 consecutive race days en-route to the title, Garcia had to battle through what he described as the ‘hardest day of his life’ to win the championship on day two in Italy. Injured from a crash the previous day, he fought his way to fourth in Enduro1 to wrap things up with a full round to spare.

ACERBIS celebrate home GP

The Polisport GP of Italy also marked a home round for our main partner, ACERBIS. The Italian brand went all-out for round six, supporting their riders with custom kit and parts. Most notably, ambassador GASGAS Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona’s riding kit was in a special Italy tricolour livery, with his name across the jersey and pants.

Maiden win for Triumph

In only their first official season in the Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship, Triumph have now got their maiden victory, thanks to Triumph Italia Racing’s Morgan Lesiardo. Lesiardo raced to the top step of the Enduro1 podium on day two at the Polisport GP of Italy. An incredible battle between Lesiardo and Sherco Racing Factory’s Jeremy Sydow saw both riders gunning for their debut win, with Morgan taking it by nine seconds.

Live stream and YouTube

For the Polisport GP of Italy, EnduroGP fans enjoyed a live stream of the Akrapovič Super Test. Local Italian broadcaster, TeleBoario, provided over two hours of coverage of the Super Test in Darfo Boario Terme. Our EnduroGP YouTube channel continues to grow in 2025. Between highlights, recaps, track previews and more, there are over 70 minutes of enduro coverage to watch from each round. FIM Ride Green programmes well received

In Portugal and Italy, we were very active with our FIM Ride Green initiatives. From promoting sustainability to community involvement, there were plenty of feel-good vibes to share. In Portugal, representatives of the championship met with local municipalities and schools to engage in tree planting and sustainability workshops, while a BBQ on Thursday evening was organised to bring all teams together for a social gathering. The local special needs group in Vila de Rei also designed and prepared the trophies for the GP of Portugal.

Sherco take ownership of Enduro3

Sherco Racing Factory have made the Enduro3 class their own in 2025. The boys in blue have won every round so far, ensuring Sherco have stood on the top step of the podium 12 times. Teammates Hamish Macdonald and Antoine Magain are currently first and second as we head into the final round in Germany. Julien Roussaly trails TM MOTO Boano Factory Enduro Team’s Leo Le Quere by just four points meaning Sherco Racing Factory have a real chance at locking out the end of season top-three if things go their way at round seven.

First American Enduro World Champion on the cards?

The Expotrade Women’s Enduro class stands on the cusp of history as we head to the season finale in Germany, with RIJEU Factory Team’s Rachel Gutish aiming to become the first American to win an FIM Enduro World Championship. Gutish leads her classmates by 11 points having taken control of the Women’s Enduro class at the GP of Portugal.

Freeman back in the paddock

It was great to see 10-time world champion and outgoing Enduro3 champion Brad Freeman back in the paddock at the Polisport GP of Italy. Injured since round one, Brad confirmed that he is well on his way to recovery. The weekend’s racing in Darfo Boario Terme had him itching to get back too. Also out of action due to injury, Steve Holcombe has still remained a regular face in the paddock this season, while also acting as minder for his partner Francesca Nocera in the Women’s Enduro class. Like Brad, Steve is fully engrossed in his recovery and looking forward to a return to racing. Both remain tight-lipped regarding which teams they will race for in 2026. We await that news with interest!

Junior1 and Junior2 title races

As we race towards the season finale at the Polisport GP of Germany, the Junior1 and Junior2 classes are tightly contested. In the Junior1 Enduro category, Ox Moto Beta’s Leo Joyon has built an 11-point lead over his fellow Frenchman, Thibault Giraudon (Sherco). Our 2024 Youth Enduro World Champion, TM MOTO Boano Factory Enduro Team’s Manuel Verzeroli has enjoyed a strong debut season in Junior1 to hold third, while taking a Junior1 win last time out in Italy. In the Junior2 Enduro class, Fantic Factory Racing Enduro Team Specia’s Kevin Cristino and Fantic Factory Racing Team’s Axel Semb are head-to-head. Cristino has been on a roll of late, winning the last six days of racing to take a six-point lead in the championship chase. The fight for third sees Davide Mei (Beta) and Diego Haution (Beta) separated by just two points in Mei’s favour.

The Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship heads to Zschopau and the Polisport GP of Germany for the seventh and final round of the season on 17-19 October.
