Talking Points: Looking back at the FIM EnduroGP Polisport GP of Sweden

The Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship headed north to Sweden to enjoy a true test of Scandinavian enduro in Skövde.

Here are just some of the highlights from the Polisport GP of Sweden…

Accessible Skövde

Event organisers of the Polisport GP of Sweden, FMCK Skövde, delivered an EnduroGP that offered incredible accessibility for spectators. They utilised the Skövde Brandy arena for the Akrapovič Super Test and Polisport Extreme Test, and kept the GMoto Enduro Test and ACERBIS Cross Test within close walking distance of the arena. With less traffic circulating the town and its surroundings, it created an energetic and more-engaged atmosphere, while helping to reduce the event’s carbon footprint.

Home triumph for Persson

It was a great home round for Triumph Racing Factory Enduro Team’s Mikael Persson. The Swede had the measure of the Scandinavian rocks, securing a pair of fifth place results in EnduroGP. On day one, he was just four seconds shy of the podium, proving how close the racing was. In Enduro1, he took second each day. With a strong points haul, he’s now tied on points in the battle for second overall in Enduro1 with Honda Racing RedMoto Enduro Team’s Samuele Bernardini.

Enduro Open headlines

The Enduro Open categories were also out in force in Skövde. After three rounds, it’s France’s Yann Dupic (KTM) who leads the Open 2-stroke class over Wales’ Gethin Humphreys (TM) in second, with Hungary’s Roland Liszka (KTM) in third. Brazil’s Patrik Capila (Fantic) tops the Open 4-stroke category, with France’s Alex Pichaud (Beta) and Corentin Poutignat (Fantic) completing the top three. In Open Senior, Italy’s Andrea Belotti (KTM) is out front, with France’s Rudy Cotton (Husqvarna) second and Germany’s Tino Bauer (KTM) third.

TM MOTO riding high on success

There must be something in the water at the TM MOTO Boano Factory Enduro Team! After three rounds, they claimed two EnduroGP race wins, and held the leader’s plate at the GP of Spain, with Zach Pichon. After the Polisport GP of Sweden, they continue to lead Enduro2, thanks to the efforts of Pichon, with the Frenchman also top three in EnduroGP. Leo Le Quere is top three in Enduro3, Manuel Verzeroli lies sixth in the Junior class, while Alberto Elgari is the new leader of the Youth class. Incredible stuff!

Extensive EnduroGP coverage on YouTube

Our EnduroGP YouTube channel is filling up fast with 2025 race action. In fact, there are already 175 minutes (plus five-and-a-half-hours of live stream) of EnduroGP coverage to watch from the opening three rounds in Portugal, Spain and Sweden, with lots more to come from the remaining rounds. Don’t miss out, subscribe to the channel and get notified of new videos as soon as they’re uploaded.

Typically Scandinavia

One top talking point regarding the weekend’s racing in Skövde was how typically Scandinavian it was, both in terrain and the weather! Summer had yet to reach Sweden and temperatures were bitterly cold for those travelling from the southern reaches of Europe or further afield. The terrain was immensely rocky and rooted. Super technical to ride, many riders commented just how physical the day was, and that it was nearly impossible to avoid making a mistake. Those who limited their errors and found a smooth rhythm rose to the top of the results.

Skövde rider parade

On Thursday evening, EnduroGP competitors assembled at the Skövde Bandy arena to enjoy a rider parade to Skövde’s town centre. A great way to announce the opening of the Polisport GP of Sweden, riders and spectators were also treated to an FMX display, while spending time signing autographs and taking photos with those who had gathered.

Junior1 and Junior2 battles

Both the FIM Junior1 World Cup and the FIM Junior2 World Cup are being hotly-contested this year. Ox Moto Beta’s Leo Joyon leads a French 1-2 in Junior1, holding an eight-point advantage over fellow countryman Thibault Giraudon (Sherco). TM MOTO Boano Factory Enduro Team’s Manuel Verzeroli is a further eight points behind in third. Winning the last four Junior2 races, Fantic Factory Racing Team’s Axel Semb enjoys a 12-point lead after round three. But behind him, things are tight. Fantic Factory Racing Enduro Team Specia’s Kevin Cristino holds on to second position by just one point over MGR Kawasaki’s Kyron Bacon in third.

Verona denies Olszowy second Akrapovič Super Test win

The Skövde Bandy arena provided the location for an all-action Akrapovič Super Test on Friday evening to kickstart the Polisport GP of Sweden. The mixture of sand and exposed concrete surfaces presented a uniquely challenging course for riders to master. Hoping to match his winning result from round one in Portugal, Rieju Factory Team’s Dominik Olszowy rocketed his way to the top of the time sheets. It took until GASGAS Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona, the final rider to start, to eventually deny the Polish ace a second Akrapovič Super Test win of the season!
