Antonio Silva: The FIM EVT is for old guys with old bikes like me!

Motorcycles come in all shapes and sizes at the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy (EVT), from the smallest of engine capacity to the largest. For this year’s ninth edition in Piekoszów, Poland, Portugal’s Antonio Silva will race one of the least powerful bikes in the paddock – his 1979 PUCH Frigerio 75.

No stranger to the FIM EVT, Silva has raced it three times in Portugal, Spain and Italy. However, Poland will mark his first time competing in the B0 category on his PUCH Frigerio 75.

At only seventy-five cubic-capacity, it will be a challenging few of day’s racing in the Polish sand, but Silva is looking forward to it.

This will be my fifth time in the FIM EVT,” tells sixty-two-year-old Silva, from Lisbon in Portugal. “It will be my first time in the B0 category, but I hope to have fun with this small bike. It is forty-five years old.

For Silva, who is competing in the Vintage Veteran Trophy category for Portugal, the FIM EVT holds a special place in his heart. Not just an opportunity to race vintage machinery for multiple days, it is also a chance for him to reconnect with old, familiar faces too.

Just last night I met a Polish friend I had not seen for forty years,” he says. “It was good to see him again – he has the same passion as me for these bikes.

I would love to still be coming to this race in ten years’ time and doing this. I raced the 6DAYS® when I was younger. The FIM EVT is more or less the same race, but for old guys with old bikes!
