Germany takes early lead in FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy with Day One win

The ninth edition of the FIM Enduro Vintage (EVT) Trophy officially got underway today, with Germany winning the opening day’s acceleration test in Piekoszów, Poland.

•   Time-honoured acceleration test opens FIM EVT on Day One
•   Germany tops the Vintage Veteran Trophy classification
•   Almost two-hundred-and-twenty competitors entered

After celebrating Tuesday’s opening ceremony for the ninth edition of the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy in Piekoszów, Poland, it was time for the two-hundred-and-twenty competitors from fifteen nations entered in this year’s event to begin the four-day race.

In keeping with tradition, the focus of Day One was the afternoon’s acceleration test. First, a forty-kilometre liaison eased riders into the event, looping out into the surrounding countryside. On their return, the acceleration test awaited, where a short, high-speed dash from point A to B decided the finishing order of the day.

Day One win for Germany in Vintage Veteran Trophy

In the prestigious Vintage Veteran Trophy competition, it was Germany who claimed an early lead in the classification by winning Day One. Led by Bert Von Zitzewitz, they will aim to build on this performance in the coming days.

In close contention, the United States followed them home in second. Enjoying a great start to their FIM EVT, France ended Day One in third, with Austria finishing fourth and Portugal fifth. As the defending champions aiming for their fourth consecutive victory, Italy was pleased with their result of sixth but will look to gain ground on their rivals tomorrow.

Enjoying his start to the FIM EVT on his 1975 KTM 250, Austria’s Peter Permusch is looking forward to the coming days ahead.

Today was a lovely day of riding,” tells Permusch at the end of the acceleration test. “It was fairly simple, but always a nice way to get started. I really enjoy this race, seeing friends from all over the world is like a reunion.

Tomorrow will be a tougher day for sure. I’m almost seventy and my bike is almost fifty years old, so together we are quite old, but we will be ok, we will have fun!

Close racing in Vintage Silver Vase class

In the Vintage Silver Vase category, Team Kramer set the benchmark on Day One, with Pantera 1 andMoto Club Scuderia Norelli finishing second and third, respectively. MC Bergamo MX Line Team edged out Team Ruhla to secure fourth on the acceleration test. In total, twenty-seven teams are contesting the Vintage Silver Vase category.

The Vintage Club class saw Moto Club Scuderia Norelli 2 lead home the nineteen teams entered on the opening day of racing. As early leaders, they will aim to maintain their advantage over Czech Classic Enduro Team Club 1 and Germany Club 4 in second and third, respectively.

Tomorrow’s Day Two marks the first major test in this year’s FIM EVT. Competitors will need to complete one-hundred-and-thirty kilometres of riding, including six special tests.
